The soul's release in California

Born and raised in northern California, Alex Rich is primarily a guitar player, who started started with prog rock at 12 years old. Playing jazz, metal, pop, and experimental bands since then. Working best alone, as he tells me, He has a pop electro band (but that is a secret of his musical schizo life, says he, laughing about it).

Alex is young. A young California lad playing (in any possible sense) with his music equipment: “I was heavy into the band Sigur Ros and they inspired me to make my own ambient songs, and from there my influences broadened”.

“Band names for me are tougher than making the music, especially since im a perfectionist, its like finding like a name to marry. I was flipping through a textbook and found "The Soul's Release," I liked the sound and thought it suited my music well, it has been a year and a half since then”.

Alex talks about internet as wonderful way to promote his work: specifically Myspace has allowed him to gain fans and get signed without ever playing a live show.

“Yes, definitely”, says he about the myspace and the net (no mistake, the author of this entry enphasized his affirmation on lingüistical purposes), “I met my friend John Somers (did the artwork for "Sometime, Somewhere" and is a great sound artist), he helped me get started doing my own recordings”.

“I was clueless about computer music and he set me on the right path. I met some interesting filmmakers who asked to use my songs in their scores and of course getting signed with Dynamophone”.

Rich is working on a full-length right now, as we write/read , with more vocals and is also hoping to start touring extensively: “I want to tour the world!” is his threat/invitation to any ears, and places, interested.
